Heviz, where the season never ends.

The spa facilities were developed at the beginning of the 1800s by the aristocrat Gyorgy Festetics, who was also the patron of the Georgikon Agricultural College and founder of the Helikon Library.
Today, Heviz is a small and attractive medical spa town, only a few minutes away from Lake Balaton and the picturesque town of Keszthely, with sanatoriums, hotels and doctors` surgeries at every turn. One might be forgiven for thinking that no “ordinary” people live here at all, although this would, of course, be an exaggeration. However, the fact remains, that for everyone who lives in Heviz there are another two beds available in hotels or guesthouses for visitors to the town.
The medical spa facilities are usually used as a complimentary treatment to help cure locomotive disorders (among others, rheumatism, scrofulous bone complaints) or hoping to delay surgical operations on joints which might seem inevitable otherwise.
Heviz does seem to achieve remarkable results and visitors normally heed the experts` advice and return at least once a year in order to ensure the effectiveness of the cure. Sitting or swimming in the waters is only part of the treatment; patients also have regular therapeutic massage, ultrasound treatment, mud baths, “weight baths,” and underwater massage. In the “galvanic baths” blood circulation to the hands and feet is improved –of course, under strict medical supervision. Every patient arriving for treatment at the spa must be able to produce a medical certificate and the result of an ECG carried out not more than three weeks earlier.
A new challenge for the city to attract younger visitors and to reach women with beauty - and cellulite – treatments, if necessary. There are “revitalization” and fitness programs for both men and women, including walking, cycling and workouts with qualified fitness trainers. All such activities are preceded by medical check-up, which forms the basis for the various programs and diets they are recommended. There are also benefits to be gained from drinking the waters. Due to the high sulfur and calcium content, taken once or twice a day it is useful in the treatment of catarrh, is able to decrease inflammation, and has antispasmodic properties.
