This summer treat yourself and your family to a really interesting vacation, with a holiday on an actual working farm. This is a great way to escape the pressures of modern urban life, and great educational value for the kids as well.

Your holiday can be as relaxed or as active as you like. That means you can feed the animals, rake the fields, bale the hay, milk the cows, or simply take it easy in the beautiful Hungarian countryside. Whichever you choose, your sure to enjoy home cooked meals made from ingredients grown right on the farm.

Accommodations range from rustic to modern. You can even choose to sleep in the barn (in rooms specially made up with big blocks of fresh hay), or in self catering apartments, suitable for 2-8 people. We can even arrange car rental for you. Our farm stay holidays are suitable for families, singles and small groups, ideal as a wholesale tour for your church or family group.

We have farmhouse partners in areas all over Hungary to choose from, for what are normally 7 day minimum stays.

Day By Day Itinerary:

Day 1 Arrive in Budapest; transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure

Day 2 transfers by private car to your chosen Farm Stay Holiday destination.

Day 3–7 your choice of Cottage Inn, or Family Working Farm.

7 days with full board 20 hours horse riding or 10 hours of horse-and-cart riding /2 horses/ included.

Day 8 Back in Budapest, morning tour with features the impressive House of Parliament, the medieval Castle District, Fishermen's Bastion, Matthias Church, Heroes' Square and Gellért Hill with its magnificent panoramic views of the city.

Day 9 Full day tour to Szentendre, Visegrad and Esztergom. Szentendre is 20 km from Budapest, and dates back to the 14th century. A cultural and tourist centre, town of arts and artists, Szentendre is a very picturesque town nestled on the bank of the Danube. Mediterranean atmosphere, Serb Orthodox monuments, 12 museums - one of them an open-air folk museum. Visegrad: The town's golden age in the 15th century was during the reign of King Matthias. The excavated parts of the Renaissance palace are amazing. You get the best view over the Danube Bend from the Citadel right on top. Esztergom, 70 km from Budapest, is the seat of the Hungarian Roman Catholic Church. It was a royal seat until the 13th century. St. Stephen was crowned here. The cathedral is Hungary's largest church, and the Christian Museum is one of the largest such collections.

Working Farm Kerekegyhaza

This is an actual working farm you will live with the family and can choose to help with every day chores. Two apartments are furnished very plain and simple but comfortable: this is not a five star hotel. One apartment sleeps four the other sleeps two, both with their own bathrooms.

The lady of the house prepares your meals every day, using ingredients from her own garden.

She makes her own pasta and canned fruits and vegetable.
We can organise wine tasting in the Puszta, horse-and-cart tours combined with special Hungarian events, folk lore shows related to equestrian life, and basket-lunch parties.

Kunpuszta, Kerekegyháza - Equestrians' Paradise

Leave stresses of modern civilization behind, and relax in this recreational paradise in the middle of the Hungarian Puszta. Cottage Inn, one of the best private inns in Hungary, is located 80 km south of Budapest, on the frontier of the Hungarian National Park. The Cottage Inn is a hundred-year-old, characteristic thatched cottage of the Kiskunság which was converted into an inn. A fireplace was added to the old cleaning room, transforming it into a pleasant parlor. The other rooms were decorated with rural pottery and tile stoves, and turned into a dining area.

Cottage Inn is surrounded by 6 apartment cottages (bungalows) in a picturesque environment. Each cottage includes a living room with a cooker and tile stove, and three bedrooms. The bar in the main building is a popular gathering place for the equestrians in the neighborhood, but it is also a nice place for anybody who just wants a nice drink.

Our visitors can view the Puszta from their tables. The beautiful scenery of the Puszta serves to enhance the pleasure of fine food and drink. The feeling of perfect rural atmosphere is also strengthened by the presence of the "obligatory" participants of the life of an old Hungarian farm: Hungarian bred horses, donkeys, lambs and dogs.

The kitchen of Cottage Inn offers our guests the possibility to taste or recall the flavors of special old country dishes passed on through generations of Hungarian countryfolk. The famous goulash cooked in stew-pot over open fire, various stews and chicken specialties are some examples. Those with a sweet tooth, any age, can taste our pancakes, strudels, and sweet soufflés. Those with really hearty appetites may wish to dine on roast pig.

Cottage Inn offers you the following leisure time activities:
Riding classes for beginners (children and adults).
For more advanced riders: riding tours round the Puszta (duration as agreed).
Horse-and-cart tour (if requested, driving under the inspection of the drayman).
All-day-long riding and horse-and-cart tour in the Puszta, with basket-lunch.
You can wander round the neighborhood, having a close look to rural Hungarian life.
Stopping at the neighbouring pubs where you can meet local horsemen and discover real "Hungarian hospitality".
And if you still choose to spend a day without the Puszta and the horses, the central location of Cottage Inn offers you various opportunities to do so:
You can get to Budapest through Motorway M5 in about 1 hour.
A trip to Lake Balaton takes about 1 to 1.5 hours.
You can spend a day by sightseeing, shopping and drinking in Kecskemét city just 18 km away.
There is also nightlife in Kecskemét with a good selection of bars and discos.
These are just some examples of possible outings in this beautiful region. You can also enjoy the wonderful Hungarian sunshine in our meadows, and take refreshment in our 10 m x 20 m swimming pool. We serve you cold drinks as frequently as you wish.
A day in the Puszta ends delightfully with an evening campfire toasting bacon on skewer, or perhaps a sweetly melancholic night at the inn with the gypsy band. One thing you'll be sure to remember is when the first fiddler of the band plays your favorite song to you. We always have reserves of our spicy Hungarian wines for your friends at home.
